Board Roles & Committees

GPA has many roles and responsibilities, including collecting monthly donations from families, planing and executing school events, funding teacher grants, creating and selling spirit wear, maintaining budget and paying enrichment contractors.

Joining a subcommittee to help out with the work of keeping GPA up and running is a great way to meet new parents and make a real difference at our school. You can read a brief description of each committee below and reach out to the coordinator to get involved. 

Board Officers Roles

President:

Supervises and controls the affairs of the organization and the activities of the officers. Presides at all board meetings. Executes governance documents.

Vice President:

Performs duties of president in the president’s absence. The Vice President is a member of the Governance Committee.

Secretary:

Documents minutes at board meetings. Maintains minutes and other organization documents (bylaws, articles of incorporation, resolutions, etc.) Oversees notices for special meetings and the annual board election.

Treasurer:

Controls all of the organization’s funds. Works with bookkeeper to disperse funds, maintains accounts of organization’s transactions, and provides financial records to any member on request. Prepares and presents an overview of current financial reports at board meetings.

GPA Board Subcommittees

Fundraising & Events Subcommittee:

The Fundraising & Events committee is responsible for the scheduling, planning and execution of the GPA fundraisers and events. This group meets monthly to work on the details of all the various events happening on both campuses. Reach out to gravensteinparentassociation@gmail.com if you would like to attend these meetings, or would like to lend a hand in fundraising and community building. We also have all of our volunteer opportunities listed here. Feel free to sign up early and often to help!

Communications Subcommittee:

The communications committee manages the marketing and messaging for GPA. They maintain this website, create and send out monthly newsletters, manage the facebook and instagram accounts for GPA, as well as craft a portion of the Monday Messages. They also update the bulletin board at school,  and prepare the annual pledge commitment packet. Please reach out to GPA if you’d like to be a part of our group. 

Governance Subcommittee:

The governance subcommittee oversees adherence to bylaws, negotiates annual Memorandum Of Understanding with the District, executes parent foundation merger activities. President and vice president are typically members of this subcommittee.

Finance Subcommittee:

The finance subcommittee prepares the association’s annual budget, proposes monthly pledge amounts. This subcommittee is lead by the Treasurer.
